It makes for a headset that could fit in just as well in a gaming environment as it could on a commute or in a cafe. Since this model is platform-agnostic, SteelSeries has stuck to an all black design save for some white accents on the ski band. The rest of the headset is made of fairly robust plastic. The headband is a sturdy and flexible metal that creates just enough clamping force to keep the headset on without feeling overly tight. While there's no typical height adjustment slider, the Arctis line's signature ski band suspension strap makes it easy to rest the headset at the right level while simultaneously spreading the weight of the headset across the top of my head. The earcups are held by fairly adjustable yolks that can hinge on to axes, making it easy to get a comfortable fit with pressure spread evenly. SteelSeries could stand to make the cups slightly deeper, but they don't bother the edges of my ears terribly, and the ear cups are already quite large. The headset features wide, oval-shaped ear cups with ample cushion packed inside SteelSeries' breathable and gentle AirWeave material. I've used several of these headsets, and the Arctis 9 certainly leans toward the premium end. The SteelSeries Arctis 9 Wireless gaming headset stays true to the stylings of the Arctis brand. It may not be a cheap headset, but its level of quality and flexibility make it one you can use for just about everything – something that's not always true of cheaper gaming headsets. The SteelSeries Arctis 9 Wireless's more platform-agnostic approach proves to make it a far more valuable headset.
Though it doesn't support Xbox so simply, SteelSeries also offers the Arctis 9X to cover that console. The headset features a USB dongle for wireless connectivity with most modern platforms, and some backup connectivity options if you need more flexibility in your setup. While the SteelSeries Arctis 7X and 7P specifically target the new Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, respectively, the new SteelSeries Arctis 9 Wireless headset is one of the company's more premium models, which tend to find a way to work in just about any setup.Īt $200, you'd hope for a headset to be fairly versatile, and that's just what the Arctis 9 promises.
